Deep rimmed plates (previously called deep rimmed bowls) have a depth of 4.5cm (1inches) and are good for pasta, soups and dishes with lots of sauce, as well as having a contemporary feel. Often restaurants use this style of plate for main courses as it tends to centre the food.
